Hello Year 5,

Well, we made it - the end of another school year!  We hope that you have enjoyed being in Year 5 and learnt lots.

During the summer holidays, keep practicing your English.  You can: read a good book; write a diary; review a book or film; watch films in English and...keep talking!  It´s really important that you do all of this as you are not at school again until September.

Here is the holiday homework:

English - write a recount of your Easter holidays.  You can write this as a diary.  Write an A4 page of diary entries.  You can write about one day or two or three.

Science - make a poster about plant and animal life cycles to show your understanding of the topic.

Don´t forget to visit the websites listed in your diary for extra practice throughout the holidays.  You can also play on Education City.

Victory garden project

VICTORY GARDEN 

During World War 2, a garden was a useful thing to have. Because of rationing, food was in short supply. Flowers grown for decoration were replaced by vegetables that could provide extra food for the family.

Your job is to design and then make a Victory Garden.  You will need a shoebox and any other materials you want to use.  In your garden you will need:

An Anderson Shelter

A Vegetable allotment – decide which vegetables you will grow

Some Fruit trees

A Compost Heap

A Greenhouse (optional)

A Chicken coop/rabbit hutches

Research your design and be ready to bring your materials to school during the week beginning 29^th February.  Your teacher will let you know which day.

Extreme Reading

For World Book Day (Thursday 3rd March), we want to see some of the extreme places where you have read a book!  Your challenge, should you chose to accept it, is to have a photo taken of you reading a book in an exciting and different place.

The Rules:

•One photo per person

•It needs to be a book that you’ve actually read, or are reading

•Photos need to include your name, class and what the book was (title and author)

•NO PHOTOSHOP!

•Photos need to be given to Miss Chloë or your class teacher BY TUESDAY 1st MARCH (on a memory stick/USB or by email)

•DO NOT GO ANYWHERE THAT IS DANGEROUS OR COULD INJURE YOU!

Science Day

Hello Year 5,

As you know, we are having a Science day on Wednesday 27th January.  There will be a lunchtime challenge for you to take part in, if you would like to. There is also a quiz to complete.

Year 5 are going to be making parachutes.  You will need to bring the materials you would like to use to make your parachute, and we will make and test them at school.  You also need something that weighs a little bit to add to the bottom of your parachute.  You can bring a hard boiled egg and decorate it to look like a person.  If you have a small action figure, doll or something similar, you might like to bring that.

Deberes Lengua Castellana Semana 1 15-01-16

Hola a todos,
Les informo que durante este trimestre no se realizarán resúmenes como de costumbre.
Aprovecharemos la lectura del libro para realizar un ejercicio de expresión escrita que será evaluado y se incluirá en la nota final.
El ejercicio constará de cuatro partes, en la que tendrán que escribir la introducción, el desarrollo y el desenlace de la historia leída y una opinión personal.
Los alumnos ya están informados del cambio y es necesario coger un libro de la biblioteca del colegio.
El primer ejercicio de este tipo se realizará en lunes 25 de Enero.
Los deberes de esta semana se recogerán el próximo jueves 21.
